The Chelyabinsk region became the first among Russian regions in environmental competitions for garbage collection, which took place on September 15 in the framework of the World Purity Day campaign in 150 countries around the world, including Russia. The action started at 10 am in New Zealand and covered the entire planet in 36 hours.

In Russia, many organizers have chosen the format of  “Clean Games” for this day - these are team competitions for the collection and sorting of garbage, which have been held throughout the country since 2014. The participants of the ecological quest are divided into teams and clear the selected territory for speed. Each team receives points for the quantity and quality of the collected garbage, as well as additional tasks. The team with the maximum number of points becomes the winner.

According to Dmitry Ioffe, the founder of “Clean Games”, almost 5,000 volunteers from 58 Russian cities took part in the action. Together, they managed to collect 86 tons of garbage, half of which was sorted by waste and sent for recycling.

According to the results of the action, the Chelyabinsk region took the first place, 8 games took place on its territory, the second place - the Perm region, in which they played four games, and the third place was the Republic of Mordovia - two games.

In the team standings I and II places were taken by teams from Chelyabinsk under the name “Clean Mooses” and “Green Penguin”; III place went to the team "Monsters of purity" from Pyatigorsk.

In the Chelyabinsk region the "Clean Games" was attended by about a thousand people, for 2 hours more than 10 tons of garbage was collected. Due to separate collection, 42 m³ of plastic, 22 m³ of metal and 33 m³ of glass were sent for recycling.

In all regions, representatives of regional authorities, public figures, and businessmen joined the event.

“Clean games are held within the framework of the regional project “Clean Region”, - Sergey Likhachev, Minister of Ecology of the Chelyabinsk Region comments. “The Governor of the Chelyabinsk region supported this initiative and instructed the entire region to conduct subbotniks with the introduction of separate garbage collection and subsequent delivery to processing enterprises.”

In the city of Korolyov, the chairman of the Commission on the Quality of Life of Citizens, Health, Social Policy, Labor Relations, Ecology, Nature Management and Forest Preservation of the Public Chamber of the City District Korolev Gennady Anikin visited the game. He noted that the beginning of this game will be a vivid example in order to unite to solve other environmental problems.

Volunteers and representatives of the authorities in Surgut cleaned up 20 thousand square meters of the perinatal district center under construction. The action was carried out as part of the completion of the landscaping of the center, which will become one of the foremost Russian medical institutions in the field of childbearing in terms of its equipment, ergonomics and the only one of its kind in the regions of the Far North.

For the first time, Ufa took part in an environmental quest, for which 7 sites were prepared in the region. In the Park of Woodcutters, employees of the State Committee for Housing and Construction Supervision came out for cleaning - those who are usually addressed with problems of cleaning and landscaping.

Azamat Kutlugulov, deputy chairman of the State Committee for Housing and Construction Supervision: “We understand that there are special people who should deal with this issue. At the same time, each of us must have social responsibility for the territory where we live. Participation in the action is taken not only by employees from Ufa, but also from other cities. ”

According to Dmitry Ioffe, thanks to the active position of citizens, it was possible to realize such a large-scale action, the result of which was a huge number of volunteers who joined together to clean as many polluted territories as possible.

“In the future, we plan to do such actions 2 times a year. It turned out that it could be not only environmental competitions, but also entire environmental sports tournaments throughout Russia. The next step is environmental sports leagues. For example, there may be school, student or corporate net games,” the project leader commented.

To date, more than 275 events with the participation of 22,000 people have been held in the framework of the “Clean Games” project, more than 400 tons of garbage have been collected.

“Clean Games” project teaches volunteers proper waste management, collection and sorting of garbage, so it has a high social, environmental and economic importance. The project has been recognized as the best practice and has been supported by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives since 2016. Protecting the environment is impossible without the participation of each of us,” the leader of the “Clean Games” project at the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Alexandra Denisova said.

The Purity day has been held since 2008 on the initiative of Estonians: then 50 thousand volunteers in one day collected 10 thousand tons of garbage and brought it to legal landfills. Thus, the movement “Let's do it!” arose, to which many like-minded people all over the world joined. Every year, environmentalists calculate the Day of Ecological Debt - this is the day when the world's population spends the entire amount of renewable resources that the Earth is able to reproduce in a year. Particularly negative impact on the state of the Earth a waste has - not only production, but also left by the people themselves. This year, the Day of Ecological Debt came on August 1.
